Passion (Palm) Sunday (12/16)


SUNDAYS OF LENT

Eucharistic Adoration will take place at the Sacred Heart Altar to-day from 4.00pm, followed by Evening Prayer and Benediction at 5.00pm.


ADVOCATE COLLECTION

The Sunshine Fund of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is holding its Annual Collection this weekend – (19th and 20th March) after all the Masses.  Please be as generous as you can – all funds raised will be used to provide much needed holidays for deserving children.  The Sunshine Fund is a special works conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society.


RECONCILIATION SERVICE

WITH INDIVIDUAL CONFESSION IN PREPARATION FOR EASTER

This Prayer Service will take place tomorrow evening, Monday 21st March at 8.00pm in the Church.  There will be a number of visiting Confessors.

Thursday 24th March 10.30 – 11.30am.  Friday 25th March 4.30 – 5.30pm

Saturday 26th March 10.30 – 11.30am.  4.00 – 5.00pm


GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS - 25th March at 8.00pm

Once again we look forward to celebrating the Stations of the Cross in the Church on Good Friday in costume, mime and music.  Please consider taking part in this presentation, which is always a most rewarding experience.  If you are in any way interested in Drama or Mime or in giving a hand on the night, please come to rehearsal, which will take place on Tuesday 22nd March at 6.50pm in the Church.  

The Children’s Stations of the Cross will be presented here in the Church of the Assumption by the children of Howth Primary School at 12 noon on Good Friday, 25th March.


HOLY COMMUNION FOR THE SICK AND HOUSEBOUND ON HOLY THURSDAY EVENING AND EASTER SUNDAY MORNING

Parish Ministers of the Eucharist will be bringing Holy Communion to the Sick and Housebound on Holy Thursday Evening after the EVENING MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER (9.00pm approx.) and after the 10.30a.m. Mass on Easter Sunday morning.  Parishioners who may have relatives or friends who cannot get to the Church are invited to leave names and contact telephone numbers in the Sacristy.


ECUMENICAL SUNRISE SERVICE

The EASTER SUNDAY SUNRISE CELEBRATION will take place at Howth Summit on Easter Sunday morning (27th March).  Assembly in car park at 7.00am.  This is jointly organised by all the Christian denominations of Howth, Sutton, Bayside and Baldoyle parishes.  Immediately after the service, there will be a simple breakfast in the Parish Hall (St. Columbanus)  All welcome.


BIBLE STUDY GROUP

Howth Parish Bible Study Group resumes on Friday 1st April, after the Easter break.  St. Columbanus Hall - 10.45am.  All are welcome.

ECUMENICAL PRAYER SERVICE

Community Worship for Carers, the Cared for and their families.  To-day – Sunday 20th March at 4.00pm in Sutton Methodist Church.  A form of worship designed to suit the needs of older, physically or mentally infirm people and their carers.  Held monthly, it offers a simple worship service with familiar readings and hymns and a short talk.  It is open to all denominations and is followed by refreshments and a time to chat and to get to know each other in a friendly and caring atmosphere. Everyone welcome.


HOWTH PENINSULA HERITAGE SOCIETY  -  MARCH LECTURE

On Tuesday 22nd March at 8.00pm Fr. Tom Morrissey, SJ will give a lecture in the Howth Angling Centre, West Pier, on “Laurence O’Neill: Lord Mayor of Dublin 1917-24, patriot and man of peace”.  Admission to non-members of the Society is €5  All welcome.


EVENING OF POETRY AND MUSIC

Friday 1st April at 7.00pm in St Columbanus Hall. Featuring Poets Paddy Glavin, Sue Brown, Sally Hyland, Jennifer Brady, Michael Connaughton, Paul Wickham, Mairghread Woods, Christina Molloy, Eddie Phillips, Johnny Morton.  Refreshments available, free admission.  Donation gratefully accepted for costs.


COMEDY THEATRE IN HOWTH

Theatre Nights return to Howth Golf Club on Friday, April 1 at 8pm when renouned actor Seamus O’Rourke presents his one-man comedy play “Padraig Potts Guide to Walking”.  This is the coming of age story of Padraig, at times tender and moving, more often hilarious and joyful, as he grows up in the ‘50’s in rural Leitrim.  This show was the outstanding success of last years Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has been packing out theatres all over Ireland since then.  A special feature of Theatre Nights in Howth is the post-show discussion with the writer/ actor.  Tickets €15 from Club Bar.
