Sunday 14th February 2016

First Sunday of Lent  (07/16)

Lent is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection as Jesus did when he spent 40 days in the desert. This Lent, there is the opportunity to spend a quiet hour with the Lord each Sunday by giving him an hour in Eucharistic Adoration.  Adoration for the Sundays of Lent is at the Sacred Heart Altar from 4pm to 5pm, followed by evening prayer and Benediction.  "The Eucharist bathes the tormented soul in light and love.  Then the soul appreciates these words, 'Come all you who are sick, I will restore your health'."  St. Bernadette Soubirous of Lourdes.

The annual collection for ACCORD, the Diocesan Agency for Marriage and the Family, will be made at all the Masses this weekend (13th/14th February).  This will replace the usual Share Collection.  Accord is a well known, respected and experienced agency that has in excess of 50 years experience working with couples and individuals, supporting them in their Marriages and Relationships.

You will be aware of the work carried out by the Society.  They urgently require new members to help provide support and friendship to people in need.  Direct person to person contact with people who request help is a core feature of the approach of the Society of St Vincent de Paul volunteers.  They provide support and friendship, they promote self-sufficiency and work towards social justice by advocating for the changes needed to create a more just and caring society for all.  For further information, pick up a flyer available on the tables in the church or contact the Parish Office  - Tel. 01-839 7398.

Today is the First Sunday in Lent and the Trócaire Lenten Campaign this year is acknowledging everyone who donates to Trócaire.  We are all asked to bring home a Trócaire box and collect for Trócaire throughout Lent. There are boxes available at the doors of the church.  There is also material from Trócaire on display beside the Family Mass notice board and more information on the work of Trócaire can be found on the website

The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council is at 7.30pm on Thursday 18th February in Stella Maris Convent.

Sunday 25th to Friday 30th September 2016 - Price €895.00 per person sharing B&B.  If there are sufficient numbers interested, it is proposed that the parishes of Baldoyle, Howth and Sutton will organise a pilgrimage to Rome, to celebrate the Jubilee Year of Mercy.  Booking forms are available from the Parish Office, St. Fintan's Parish Centre, Greenfield Road, Sutton, Dublin 13. Monday - Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm. World Day of the Sick

The 24th Annual World Day of the Sick took place on Thursday, 11th February, and at all Masses this weekend, we are remembering all those in the parish who are sick and those caring to the sick.  All names written in the parish book over the last two weeks are especially thought of in our prayers this weekend.

St. Fintan’s Parish, Sutton are hosting a Week of Guided Prayer from Sunday 6th March (7.30pm) to Saturday evening 12th March.  It is an opportunity to participate in a retreat with a difference, a 'Retreat in Daily Life', or a 'Busy Person's Retreat'.  It is a way of making a retreat in the midst of daily living, as by taking some quiet time each day on your own, you are enabled to find God in your everyday life, in all its ups and downs.  The Retreat will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre at St. Fintan’s church.  During the weekdays participants will meet with their guide for about 30 minutes.  Booking forms are now available in the church and Sacristy.

The Management Committee of the St. Fintan's Parish Pastoral Centre invites proposals from Groups who are keen to use the facilities available.  Please contact Anne Boylan at Tel. 839 2001 to arrange a meeting.
