MISSION SUNDAY

Next Sunday, 19th October, is World Mission Sunday.  The theme for Mission Sunday 2014 is ‘That they may have Life’.  The second collection at all the Masses next Sunday will be for the Missions and will replace the usual SHARE collection.

All Hallows College invites you to their Autumn Series of Public Talks.  Theme: The Joy of the Gospel: Evangelii Gaudium: Exploring the Teaching of Pope Francis.  Dates:  Wednesday evenings in October:  15th, & 22nd.

Time: 7.30p.m – 9.00p.m   Venue: Room 4, Purcell House, All Hallows College.

Cost: €10 per talk.  Pay at the door.  Pre-booking is recommended.

Wednesday 15th October.  The Joy of the Gospel and Irish Church Renewal   Gerry O’Hanlon, SJ

Wednesday 22nd October.  The Joy of the Gospel: Pope Francis and Justice  Ethna Regan, CHF.  Each talk will be followed by a brief discussion with time for questions and answers.


ANNUAL CEMETERY MASS

The Annual Mass for all those buried in the two Cemeteries in the Parish – Saint Mary’s and Old Abbey – will take place on Sunday 2nd November in the Church at 3 o’clock.  The Blessing of the Graves in both Cemeteries will take place immediately after the Mass.

CHARITY SALE OF WORK

Saturday 25th October from 10am to 1.00pm in Saint Columbanus Hall in aid of the Capuchin Day Centre for Homeless people.  Brother Kevin needs financial help to provide 800 meals every day for people who are homeless or in need and up to 1,500 food parcels each week for those on the poverty threshold.  Please support this most deserving cause – Bric-a-Brac, Books, Cakes and Raffle.

The local Conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will hold their monthly collection to-day – after all the Masses.

SEA-SPEAK STORY-TELLING IN HOWTH

The Sea Speak Storytelling Project has returned this month.  Launched in January 2013 by Storyteller Daria Marie Walsh, Sea Speak is Howth’s first and only Storytelling night.  The Autumn season continues with Sea Speak Junior on the first Tuesday of each month from 3.00pm – 5.00pm at Kruger’s Pub, by the fireplace, “Stories in the afternoon”.  This year we’d like to introduce them to inter-generational Story sharing.  We are hoping to get some of our senior Storytellers and Story-lovers to come along on the First Tuesday of each month and share their Stories with us.  All story-lovers of all ages and experience, or none, are very welcome and encouraged to attend.  Additionally, Sea Speak Storytelling night will resume on Thursday 16th October, at Kruger’s Pub, at a new earlier time of 7.00pm to 9.00pm.  - Daria Walsh

First Holy Communion 2015

The parents of children in the parish preparing to receive First Holy Communion here in Howth next May are invited to an information evening on Tuesday 21st October in Scoil Mhuire at 8pm. At this meeting the parish programme of preparation for First Holy Communion will be explained and all the dates and details will be distributed.  Parents will receive a letter from school with more information.  We look forward to meeting you there.

School of the Word

A series of 6 talks on the Old Testament and its place in the Liturgy of the Word will take place in Holy Trinity Parish, Donaghmede.  The series is presented by Fr. Kieran O'Mahony, OSA.  Fr.Kieran is an Augustinian, living in Orlagh community and working for the diocese of Dublin, providing biblical resources.  Dates: Thursday evenings 7.30 to 9.00 p.m.   23rd and 30th October, 6th, 20th and 27th November, 6th Dec.  This series comes highly recommended and more information may be had from www.tarsus.ie or the Parish office.
