First Sunday of Lent                                                                    (10/14)


There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament this afternoon, (Sunday) from 4.00 to 5.00 p.m.   Sung Evening Prayer and Benediction will follow at 5 o’clock.  All welcome.



The Novena of Grace continues this week with Masses on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10th 11th and 12th March, at 8.00pm. The Novena is conducted by Fr. John Callanan, SJ, Fr. Peter McVerry, SJ; and Fr. Patrick Hume, S.J.


Trócaire Lenten Campaign 2014

The focus for this year’s Trócaire Lenten campaign is on the global water crisis and on how Trócaire is working with communities to help them gain access to clean water for domestic consumption and agricultural use.  Water has a huge impact on the lives of all human beings and on all creation.  The girl pictured on this year’s Trócaire Lenten box is Enestina Muyeye from the Kanyera community in Malawi, one of the world’s poorest countries.  To find out more about Enestina and Trócaire’s work in her community visit

During Lent we will use some of the Trócaire parish resources to pray for the lives of people in Malawi and all those affected by water shortages.  The Family Mass team have a display board with more information about Lent 2014 and Enestina and the global water crisis.  There is more information on the Family Mass section of the parish website,

Howth/Sutton Lions Club Collection

A special Church Gate collection by Howth/Sutton Lions Club for local charities will take place today - Sunday 9th March.  The main focus of the collection is to assist the L'Arche Community, Baldoyle, replace an aged minibus used for the daily transport to occupational therapy of community members with intellectual disabilities.


Family Mass during Lent 2014

Please see a letter on the notice board at the back of the Church, which gives all the information about the Family Masses during the six Sunday’s in Lent.  This letter was distributed to families through Scoil Mhuire.  If you would like to have a special part in any of these Masses, please speak to a member of the team after 10.30am Mass.

Altar servers

We would like to re-establish a team of altar servers to work at our Family Masses.  Altar servers have a very special role in assisting the priest during Mass and especially preparing for the consecration.  If your son or daughter (aged 8 to 12 please) would be interested in joining this team, please leave your name with the parish secretary, Barbara on 839 7398.


Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation continues in St. Columbanus Hall Monday 10th March at 7.30 p.m. with Joe Clarke.  All are welcome.


Marriage Enrichment

Husbands and wives, why not give one another a special gift of a marriage enrichment weekend away together?  Presented by Marriage Encounter, this is a break with a difference that will help rekindle, renew and enrich the love and joys that you share together in a way that completely respects your privacy.  It is for both the recently and the many years married.  The next such weekend will be in Cork from 28th (8pm) to 30th (5pm) March 2014. Family Mass on the Parish website

The Family Mass team understands that not all families can come along to the 10.30am Mass each Sunday and so for the Sundays of Lent we have put lots of the resources up on the parish website for you and your family.  Each Sunday there is a copy of the Gospel reading and links to activity pages for children.  There is also a prayer suitable for the week of Lent and links to the Trócaire resources which give a lot more activities for parents to do with older children.  Visit the Family Mass page on and follow the links for Lent 2014.



Celebrated Italian Tenor, Friar Alessandro will perform in concert 17 March 2014, at 7.30pm in Merchant’s Quay Friary Church.  Tickets available at the door or can be purchased in advance from the Friary Offices, Merchants Quay, Dublin, 10am-1pm weekdays. Tickets are €7, OAPs/students €5 or €20 for a family ticket.
