SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT                                                                           (49/12)

Second Sunday of Advent

There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from 3.00 to 4.00 p.m. to-day followed by Evening Prayer and Benediction.

 

Copies of the Initial response by the Bishops to the Report of the Expert Group on Abortion are available on the tables around the Church.  Please take a copy.

 

SAINT VINCENT de PAUL ANNUAL CHRISTMAS COLLECTION

The Annual Christmas Collection for the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will take place to-daySunday – (9th December).  This collection will replace the SHARE Collection.

 

CAROL SINGING FOR SANTA

To-day, Sunday - Santa will come to light up the Christmas tree opposite the gates of the Church.  We invite everyone to come along and join in singing carols for the perfect Christmas feeling.  For all singers and musicians, we will have a quick practice of carols at 4pm in Saint Columbanus Hall (everyone welcome!!) and the community singing will begin at 4.45pm on the steps of the Church.  Gather round from 4.30pm as we wait for Santa!

 

CHRISTMAS PARTY    -   HOWTH SENIOR CITIZENS

The Senior Citizens’ Christmas party will be held in the ABBEY TAVERN on Sunday, 16th December at 1.00 p.m.  Individual invitations are not being sent out but ALL SENIOR CITIZENS IN HOWTH PARISH ARE WELCOME.  It is asked that only Senior Citizens resident in Howth attend.  Those who require transport are asked to leave their names in the Sacristy   Tel. 839 7398

 

SAINT FINTAN’S CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT

Saint Fintan’s Church, Sutton, will host a Christmas Carol Concert in the Church on Wednesday 12th December at 7.30 p.m.  Combined Junior and Senior Choirs with Soloist – Mary Callan Clarke and special guest Pat Coldrick, Classical Guitarist.  Compere: Ian Dempsey.  All are welcome.

 

“You shall be my Witnesses…”-Parish Preparation for Confirmation Programme

Today at 10.30 Mass we welcome the young people of the parish who will make their Confirmation this year.  They come to the Church with their families and will promise to take part in the parish preparation Programme “You shall be my Witnesses…” which complements their school programme.  Let us as the parish community remember them in our prayers and give them any support we can.  We thank their parents and teachers and all who are supporting this programme

 

HOWTH DEANERY   YEAR OF FAITH SERIES OF TALKS

The first in this series will be given by Fr. Liam Tracey OSM   Vatican Two: The Liturgy; where we were to where we are now  on Wednesday 12th December in Killester Parish Resource Centre, Howth Road from 7.30pm - 9.00pm.  All are welcome.

 

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHURCH MAINTENANCE GROUP

In preparation for the coming of our Saviour, the Church Maintenance Group plans to hold a pre-Christmas 'Clean Up' of our Church on Saturday next, 15th December.  They are calling for "All Hands on Deck" between 9.00 and 10 a.m., 10.30 a.m to 11 a.m. and 11.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.  Even if you can give just 30 minutes it will make a difference.  So 'Come all Ye Faithful" and bring your rubber gloves, a brush, a duster or a vacuum and help us prepare our Church for this great and wonderful Feast.

CAROL SERVICE BY CANDLELIGHT

Pobalscoil Neasáin in Baldoyle will host a Christmas Carol service on Wednesday 12th December at 7.30 p.m.  All are welcome.  Refreshments afterwards.   Come along to an enjoyable, reflective, and prayerful service by the students.

 

RECENT BAPTISMS

The Parish Community warmly welcomes David John Mullarkey and Ruben John Monroe who were baptised recently in our Church.  Congratulations and every joy to their proud Parents, Grand parents, God parents and extended family.

 

The Howth Community Drama Group presents 'ANNIE – The Musical' from Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th January at 8.00 p.m. with a Matinee on Saturday 5th at 3.00p.m. in the School Hall, Howth Primary School.  Tickets €8 adult, €5 senior citizens and children, Family Ticket €25 - from Lua (Tel. 839 1538).  Please come, enjoy a great show and support your local community!

 

Howth Parish Reform and Renewal Group

The final meeting of the year will take place on Monday 17th December in St. Columbanus Hall at 8.00 pm.  The meeting will conclude with some ‘festive refreshments’.  ALL WELCOME.

POST- CONFIRMATION PROGRAMME

All young people in the parish who were Confirmed in 2010, 2011 or 2012 are invited to the December (Christmas) meeting of this group in Scoil Mhuire on Monday 10th December from 7.30 - 8.30 pm.  We look forward to seeing many of our recently Confirmed parishioners there.  Young people will pack shoe boxes with presents for a charitable organisation.  They should bring a small present value under €5  Information: Kay Burke 087-974 9005 or Barbara, Parish Office 839 7398
