FIFTH SUNDAY OF EASTER (18/12)
MAY DAY HOLIDAY - MONDAY 7th MAY
There will be one Mass in the Church at 11.00 a.m. followed by the Miraculous Medal Novena Prayers.
NATIONAL COLLECTION for the International Eucharistic Congress
The fourth National Collection towards the funding of IEC 2012 will take place in all Churches this week-end. The entire cost of the Congress is being borne by the Irish Church and the fees of participants. Despite the large influx of visitors expected from overseas, it was decided in the light of demands on public funds, not to apply for tourism grants that are often made available for such international events. Describing the IEC 2012 theme of 'Union with Christ and with One Another' as the fundamental basis for renewal and reform in our Church at this time, Archbishop Martin sees the Congress as a call to mission and also a call to reflect the love and care of Jesus Christ to one another in the Church and together to the society in which we live. Contributing to the National Collection is one way in which Catholics can actively support this work of renewal and reform. Donations may be made in the envelopes available on the tables in the Church.
YOUTH OF HOWTH RESPOND TO ‘COMMUNITY CALL’
Thursday, 19th April, 2012
The Howth Parish Transition Year Programme has just completed its fifth year, with a graduation ceremony in the Stella Maris Retreat Centre, Howth Summit on Thursday, 19th April, 2012.
30 students took part in this year long, once a month programme from a range of 5 schools which serve the Howth area: St. Fintan’s High School, Santa Sabina, Belvedere College, Pobailscoil Nessan, and Sutton Park School.
All participants were presented with an Achievement Certificate for their respective Transition Year Portfolio by Fr. Brendan Houlihan P.P. Church of the Assumption, Howth, sponsor of the programme.
“The purpose of the programme is to foster in our youth a greater spirit of self-awareness and personal responsibility, with a particular focus on greater community involvement, such as our support for our local HSE managed residential home at Kilrock House” said Paul Fagan, Chairman, Howth Parish Youth Group.
“Our year long programme continues to evolve and grow. It now includes modules on personal health, including physical, dietary, spiritual and mental health, on building active community relationships and understanding with community Gardai and with the RNLI local lifeboat service, on dimensions of local history and local characters, on stimulating students to create and design their own community and on career guidance where a full working session is facilitated by experienced professionals. This year our final session, facilitated by an experienced Methodist Church youth leader, was on the theme of community and spirituality, while each of our monthly working sessions concluded with a well received period of reflective and thoughtful meditation.
The response, involvement and participation by students continue to exceed all our expectations and augers well for greater community involvement in the future concluded Paul Fagan, Chairman, Howth Parish Youth Group.
