Sunday 27th April 2014

Second Sunday of Easter ( Divine Mercy Sunday) (17/14)

Pope Francis, in his encyclical Evangelli Gaudium - The Joy of the Gospel, wrote the following on the importance of the parish:

“The parish is not an outdated institution.  Because it possesses great flexibility, it can assume quite different contours depending on the openness and missionary creativity of the pastor and the community.  While certainly not the only institution which evangelizes, if the parish proves capable of self-renewal and constant adaptivity, it continues to be “the Church living in the midst of the homes of her sons and daughters”.

This presumes that it really is in contact with the homes and the lives of its people, and does not become a useless structure out of touch with people or a self-absorbed group made up of a chosen few …….  We must admit, though, that the call to review and renew our parishes has not yet sufficed to bring them nearer to people, to make them environments of living communion and participation, and to make them completely mission-oriented.”

The Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) warmly thanks everyone who participated in our inaugural ministry of welcome event on Easter Sunday.  We are especially grateful to those who greeted Mass goers at the 12 noon Mass and offered them a pamphlet about the work of the PPC; those who took part in liturgy and those who welcomed parishioners and visitors with refreshments at the St. Columbanus Hall after Mass.  We hope to develop this ministry of welcome during the year.  If you have ideas or are prepared to help please contact our Parish Secretary, Barbara and a member of the PPC will get in touch with you.
