Coalface Christianity in Action: Final Talk

The final talk in the current series will take place tomorrow evening, Monday, 28th November. at 8.00 p.m. in St. Columbanus Hall.  Our speaker will be Fr. Kevin O’Boyle, who spoke to us last year on ‘The Broken Church’.  Fr. Kevin is a member of the Columban Fathers and has spent several years as a missionary in Chile.  His theme this year is: “Companions on the Journey”. Drawing on the scriptures, he will discuss where we might go from the difficult situation we now find ourselves in and how, in a ‘bottom-up’ reform effort, each individual in his/her own situation/neighbourhood/parish can act as the ‘salt of the earth’ and the ‘light of the world’.  Fr. Kevin will also discuss the disenchantment of so many with institutionalised religion today.  He will compare the current exodus from the churches with the departure of many Jews in the time of Jesus from the sacred space of the Temple to St. John the Baptist near the river Jordan in search a more authentic version of religion.

The session will end, as usual, with a cup of tea at 9.15 p.m.  All are welcome.

First Holy Communion 2012

Enrolment Ceremony    Sunday 4th December   -   10.30 a.m

For the past four years our parish here in Howth has been delighted to support a new programme for children preparing for First Holy Communion.  This special programme includes a series of Masses which enables the children to become very familiar with all aspects of the Mass; the responses, prayers and liturgical activities.  Their full participation in all these areas makes their experience of the Mass more enjoyable and fulfilling.  With the support of the parish community, the children’s schools and their families, the children fully participate in these Masses.  We shared many moments of vibrant liturgical celebration together over the past four years.

Once again we invite parents and parishioners to join together to support the children from our parish who are preparing to receive Jesus in First Holy Communion in 2012.  As parents, we brought our children to the Church to be baptised and so initiated this special journey in our child’s religious education.  Our programme of preparation begins on   Sunday 4th December – Enrolment Sunday.

On Enrolment Sunday, we invite the children’s parents and our parish community to promise to support our children on this special journey.  We look forward to seeing all of our children at this ceremony and support them as they grow in friendship with Jesus which will continue long after the day of their First Holy Communion.                                                                                                                                             Howth Family Mass Group
