Twenty Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time                                  (37/11)

As advised at Masses last weekend, the International Eucharistic Congress Bell (currently on tour throughout Ireland), accompanied by its four beautifully crafted icons, arrives in Howth this Sunday (25th September) afternoon at ca. 3.00 p.m.  A special liturgy and meditation on the bell and its icons will be held in the Church from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. which will include a ceremonial ringing of the bell.  The liturgy will recall the role of bells in calling people to Mass and prayer which is a unique gift of the Celtic Church to the Universal Church.  Part of this afternoon's liturgy will involve four people carrying the bell from the main door to the altar while others will carry, hold and display each of its icons during the meditation.  If anyone would like to volunteer as a bell or icon bearer this afternoon, would they kindly give in their name at the sacristy after Mass.  At 4:30 the bell departs for Ayrefield Parish.

Weekly Eucharistic Adoration

In recent years, the practice of weekly Eucharistic Adoration has been on the increase across the Diocese with some 40 parishes involved (including our neighbouring parish of Sutton).  It draws its inspiration from Jesus' invitation to his disciples to spend one hour with him in prayer during his agony in Gethsemane.

Recently a group of parishioners came together with the priests of the parish to consider the possibility of starting a weekly programme of Eucharistic Adoration in Howth.  To take it a stage further, the Apostolate of Perpetual Adoration (a lay organisation) has been invited to speak at all Sunday Masses next weekend (1st/2nd October - including the Saturday Vigil Mass) about setting up Adoration in the Parish.  Parishioners wishing to participate will be invited to commit to spending one hour per week on an ongoing basis in silent adoration before the exposed Blessed Sacrament in the Church.  The guest speakers from the Apostolate will provide details of what is involved and how it works.
