Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time (33/15)


HOWTH PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO KNOCK -   SUNDAY 30th AUGUST

Cost - €50 – which includes Coach, Lunch (Tea/Coffee/Soup/Sandwich) and Evening Dinner at the Abbey Hotel, Roscommon.  There are just 4 places left on this Pilgrimage.  Coach departs from Church at 7.50 a.m. on Sunday 30th August.  


HOWTH PRIMARY SCHOOL

The School re-opens on MONDAY, 31st August from 8.50am until 12.15pm for all classes from Senior Infants to 6th Class.  The School re-opens on MONDAY, 31st August from 9.00am until 11.15am for new Junior Infants.


ARCHAEOLOGY DAY 29th AUGUST TOWER HILL, HOWTH    11.00am – 5.00pm

The Resurrecting Monuments group will be carrying out a Community Archaeology dig beside the Martello Tower at Tower Hill Howth over the course of Heritage Week.  The team will be searching for evidence of a possible Motte and Bailey Castle that once stood at this commanding site which overlooks Howth Harbour and provides panoramic views along Fingal coastline.  On Saturday 29th August there will be an open day to celebrate Heritage Week and the successes of the project to date.  This free event will bring to life the story of a forgotten monument at Tower Hill.  Vivid detail of past lives will be on display through a showcase of archaeological fieldwork and research undertaken by the Resurrecting Monuments Group.  This will be accompanied by authentic and exciting living history and ancient crafts.  Learn about Anglo-Norman weaponry and armour with re-enactors from Claoimh.  Get a feel for ancient crafts with Wicklow Willow.  Have a go at Geophysical Survey with Landscape and Geophysical Survey and get to grips with ancient pottery from Past Visions.


SUMMER SWIM AND BARBEQUE

Friends of Balscadden Bay (“Fobb”) invite you to their Annual Community “Summer Swim and Barbeque on the beach” at Balscadden Bay, Howth on Sunday 30th August 1.00pm to 4.00 p.m.   Lifeguard will be in attendance.  Under 12’s must be accompanied by an adult. Burgers, Hot-dogs and soft drinks will be on sale   -   All welcome

FUND-RAISING COFFEE MORNING

ARC CANCER SUPPORT CENTRES

RECENT BAPTISMS

Howth and Sutton Horticultural Society will hold their Autumn Show on Saturday 5th September and visitors are welcome between 2.30 - 4.30pm.  Come along and enjoy the exhibits and the fabulous plant sale where you may pick up some rare plants together with great plant information and advice from the experts.  Browse among the books at the book sale and relax at the delicious cake stall.  The show is held in St Nessan's Community School, Moyclare Road, off Warrenhouse Road, Baldoyle, Dublin 13.  New exhibitors are welcome and show brochures or information are available on www.hshs.ie or Tel. 01 839 4578.
