Untying the Knots

The Howth Parish Faith Development Group will host a Talk by Fr. Conall O’Cuinn, SJ, on Thursday 27th February at 8.00pm in St. Columbanus Hall.  Fr. O’Cuinn will talk about Pope Francis and the theme for the evening, ‘Untying the Knots’ is the title of Paul Valelly’s recent book.  Fr. O’Cuinn intends to engage in an interactive presentation dealing with many of the issues raised in this book.


Many thanks to all those respondents who returned the Vatican Survey.  100 questionnaires were made available in the Church.  27 responses were returned to Archbishop’s House and some were channelled through to the Association of Catholic Priests (ACP).  No record is available of those surveys submitted on-line.



The Annual Novena of Grace will take place in the Church, commencing Tuesday 4th March.  Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th March, Novena Mass at 8.00pm.  Saturday 8th March, Novena Mass at 7.00pm.  Sunday 9th March, Novena Mass at 12noon.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 10th 11th and 12th March, Novena Mass at 8.00pm. The Novena will be conducted by Fr. John Callanan, SJ, Fr. Peter McVerry, SJ; and Fr. Patrick Hume, S.J.



Bridging the Gap is a voluntary group of ladies living in the Howth and Sutton area.  Their aim is to foster community spirit through care and friendship.  They can arrange a friendly visit for a chat, or someone to just listen or play a game of cards.  If you would like to know more about this group please contact Barbara in the Parish Office, Tel. 839 7398



The Bible Study Group, under the stewardship of Fr. Please remember in your prayers, KEVIN LAMBERT, who has died.  We offer our sympathy to his family.  Funeral Mass on Wednesday 26th February at 10.00am and afterwards to Fingal Cemetery.  We also pray for BILL MOONEY who has died.  We offer our sympathy to his wife Connie and all the family.  May they rest in peace.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation continues in St. Columbanus Hall Monday 24th February at 7.30 p.m. with Joe Clarke.  All are welcome.




On Tuesday 25th February at 8.00pm Fergus Whelan will give a lecture in the Howth Angling Centre, West Pier, on “The ingenious Mr Hutcheson, his disciples and the hidden origins of Irish republicanism”.  Admission to non-members of the Society is €4  All welcome.

THE PENINSULA SOCIETY is hosting its Annual Cake sale on Sunday 2nd March in the Parish Centre, at 10.00am.  Proceeds in aid of St. Francis Hospice, Raheny.


ASH WEDNESDAY  - 5th March is a day of fast and abstinence.  Ashes will be distributed after the 8.00am, 10.00am and 8.00pm Masses.



The Friends of Balscadden Bay will host a TABLE QUIZ in the Abbey Tavern on Thursday 6th March at 8.00pm.  €10 per person – Max six per table.  Cash prizes and Raffle.  All welcome

Friday 7th March at 11.30am in St. Anne’s Church Portmarnock.  Theme “Streams in the Desert”  Service prepared by the Women of Egypt.  ALL MEN AND WOMEN ARE VERY WELCOME.  Refreshments served afterwards in the Parish Centre.
