PARISHES WORKING TOGETHER: BALDOYLE, HOWTH AND SUTTONAs previously advised, the Diocesan changes for 2013 became effective on September 6th last. Due to the shortage of priests, Archbishop Martin was unable to fill all the vacancies. Both Frs. Des Dooley and Ronnie Dunne, have left Baldoyle, having reached the age for retirement. We all wish them years of good health and happiness and we thank them sincerely for their good work in Baldoyle which is very widely appreciated. They have been replaced by Fr. Peter O’Connor who now will be the only resident priest in Baldoyle. Because of this shortage of priests, the Archbishop has appointed the priests in Baldoyle, Howth and Sutton to work together as a Team. Each priest, Frs. Liam Lacey, Kilian Brennan and Peter O’Connor will share equally in the office of Parish Priest for the three parishes and will have the title of Co-PP. They will be responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the parish in which they reside. Mgr. Fitzpatrick will act as Moderator of the Team. We are extremely grateful to Mgr. Brendan Houlihan and Canon Ray Molony for agreeing to act as Assistants to the Team. They will help us with the Mass schedules, etc. Without their help we would have to make much more drastic curtailments. As there are now fewer priests on the Team, a new Mass schedule to cater for the three parishes will have to be drawn up. For example, at the moment, in the three parishes combined there are 17 Sunday Masses, including the Vigil Masses. This new schedule will be published very shortly and will be displayed in the Church Porches. The weekend and the weekday Masses will have to be revised. This new schedule will come into operation as and from the weekend of October 19th/20th next. We are very conscious that the changes, which we will keep to a minimum, may cause some inconvenience and we do regret this. All we can hope is for your kind understanding and co-operation.
