PASTORAL STATEMENT OF THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS OF IRELAND

A copy of a letter from the Irish Bishops concerning the forth-coming Election, is available on the tables in the church.  Food for thought!


SUNDAYS OF LENT

There will be Eucharistic Adoration in the church at 4.00pm to-day, followed by Evening Prayer and Benediction at 5.00pm.


The Sacred Heart Messenger

The Sacred Heart Messenger will be promoted in the Parish this weekend, where a special offer of just €18 for a full year’s subscription by post will be available.  There will also be a complimentary copy for all.


HOWTH PARISH REFORM AND RENEWAL GROUP

‘The impact of religious leadership on the belief and affiliation of laity’.  Monday evening, 22nd February 8.00pm - St. Columbanus Hall.  Facilitated by Hugh Turpin (Queen’s University, Belfast and Aarhus University, Denmark).  Hugh has studied at UCD and Oxford and is currently investigating the impact and influence of the example of parents/guardians and religious leaders on the belief and affiliation of laity.  ALL WELCOME


The local Conference of the SAINT VINCENT de PAUL SOCIETY will hold their monthly collection to-day – after all the Masses.


SAINT VINCENT de PAUL - HOWTH CONFERENCE

The local Conference urgently require new members to help provide support and friendship to people in need.  Direct person to person contact with people who request help is a core feature of the approach of the Society of St Vincent de Paul volunteers.  They provide support and friendship, they promote self-sufficiency and work towards social justice by advocating for the changes needed to create a more just and caring society for all.  For further information please contact the Parish Office  - Tel. 01-839 7398.


THIRD PRINT OF MUDOAK   The story of a Howth Cottage by Bernie Nestor 1995

This is a nostalgic Memoir by Bernie Nestor of her life growing up in an isolated cottage overlooking Howth Golf Club on Howth Hill.  It is a social history covering several generations.  It will appeal to a wide readership as well as to the people of Howth.  Published by the Howth Peninsula Heritage Society at €5.00 and sold in aid of St. Francis Hospice, Raheny.  Copies are available in the Sacristy from Barbara or Tel. 01- 839 7398


GOOD FRIDAY STATIONS OF THE CROSS  25th March 2016 at 8.00pm

In preparation for the annual celebration of the Stations of the Cross, a short meeting will be held at 7.00pm on Thursday 25th February in the Sacristy.  The Stations will follow the usual format - costume, music and mime.  We need actors and backstage crew so come along to the meeting and support this event which is such an important part of our Parish Holy Week programme.


WEEK OF GUIDED PRAYER

St. Fintan’s Parish, Sutton are hosting a Week of Guided Prayer from Sunday 6th March (7.30pm) to Saturday evening 12th March.  It is an opportunity to participate in a retreat with a difference, a 'Retreat in Daily Life'.  Booking forms are now available in the Sacristy and should be returned to Sutton Parish Office by Tues 23rd Feb.  The Retreat will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre at St. Fintan’s church.

Mindfulness Meditation with Joe Clarke

Meditation will not take place tomorrow evening (Monday 22nd Feb.) as there is a meeting in St. Columbanus Hall.  Meditation will take place on Tuesday morning 23rd February from 11.00am in St. Columbanus Hall.  No booking required – all are welcome.


CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

FUNDRAISING TABLE QUIZ

Friends of Balscadden Beach (FOBB) will host a Fundraising Pub Quiz in the Abbey Tavern, Howth on Thursday 10th March at 8pm.  All welcome.  Cash Prizes.  €10 per head and max 6 people per table.

HOWTH PENINSULA HERITAGE SOCIETY  -  FEBRUARY LECTURE

On Tuesday 23rd February at 8.00pm Michael McDowell, SC will give a lecture in the Howth Angling Centre, West Pier, on “Eoin MacNeill: Scholar, nationalist, revolutionary, politician”.  As part of the Society’s contribution to the 1916 centenary, we address the legacy of the man whose final resting place is in Kilbarrack Cemetery.  Admission to non-members of the Society is €5  All welcome.


SUTTON FLORAL ART CLUB will meet on Wednesday 24th February at 8.00pm in the Marine Hotel, Sutton.  Demonstrator on the evening will be Ms. Brid Kelleher.  Visitors very welcome.  Admission €7


BIBLE STUDY GROUP

Howth Parish Bible Study Group continues on Friday 26th February in St. Columbanus Hall at 10.45am.  All are welcome.

The Peninsula Society Annual Cake Sale will take place at St Fintan’s Parish Centre, Greenfield Road, Sutton on Sunday 28th February from 10am to 1pm.  All proceeds will go to Cappagh Hospital Foundation.  There will be stalls selling home-made cakes, buns, scones, bread, and apple tarts, jams and chutneys, a stall with children's toys, and some particularly interesting Bric-a-Brac.  Refreshments will be available.
