A LIGHT TO BE RECOVERED There is an urgent need, then, to see once again that faith is a light, for once the flame of faith dies out, all other lights begin to dim. The light of faith is unique, since it is capable of illuminating every aspect of human existence. A light this powerful cannot come from ourselves but from a more primordial source: in a word, it must come from God. Faith is born of an encounter with the living God who calls us and reveals his love, a love which precedes us and upon which we can lean for security and for building our lives. Transformed by this love, we gain fresh vision, new eyes to see; we realize that it contains a great promise of fulfilment, and that a vision of the future opens up before us. Faith, received from God as a supernatural gift, becomes a light for our way, guiding our journey through time. [4] Lumen Fidei –The Light of Faith – Pope Francis’ first encyclical “Lumen fidei”, was published on Friday 5th July. The encyclical is available for download at www.vatican.va SAINT VINCENT De PAUL SOCIETY The local Conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will hold their monthly collection to-day after all the Masses. Birmingham Festival Choral SocietyWe are delighted to announce that on Sunday next, July 28th, we welcome to Howth the very talented Birmingham Festival Choral Society Choir, when they will perform a wide range of popular, classical and sacred works. This is a big choir, with 86 performers, so we are expecting a wonderful evening of enjoyable music from both choir and soloists. The Concert will be held in the Church of the Assumption, starting at 8.00pm. Admission is free but the facility for a voluntary collection will be available to show appreciation and contribute towards costs. At the end of the concert, the audience will be invited to join the Choir for refreshments. Sandwiches, Cakes, Tarts, or any other edibles which would add to the enjoyment of the evening would be much appreciated. For more information, contact Barbara at the Parish Office .
