Sunday 1st March 2015 Second Sunday of Lent (09/15) SUNDAYS OF LENT There will be Eucharistic Adoration at 4.00pm to-day, followed by Evening Prayer at 5.00pm. HOWTH PARISH REFORM AND RENEWAL GROUP The 2015 Synod on the Family will take place in Rome in October. Pope Francis has called on the lay faithful to engage fully in the consultation process prior to this second Synod on the Family. The ‘window of opportunity’ for discussion is quite short – the deadline for submissions to Archbishop’s House is the end of March. The Parish Reform and Renewal Group will hold an ‘Open Forum’ on the Synod tomorrow evening, Monday 2nd March at 8.00pm in St. Columbanus Hall. A number of speakers will make short presentations on some of the key issues and an ‘Open Forum’ discussion will follow. The key themes emerging from the meeting will be summarised in a report which will be forwarded to the Archbishop. PARISH OF HOWTH - NOVENA OF GRACE The Annual Novena of Grace will take place in the Church, beginning on Wednesday 4th March. Weds. 4th to Friday 6th March, Novena Mass at 8.00pm. Saturday 7th March, Novena Mass at 7.00pm. Sunday 8th March, Novena Mass at 12noon. Mon, Tues, Weds and Thurs 9th to 12th March, Novena Mass at 8.00pm. The Novena will be conducted by Piaras Jackson, SJ, Brendan Comerford, SJ and Laurence Murphy, SJ. POPE FRANCIS HAS SOME QUESTIONS FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY Pope Francis is eager to know you and your family. He wants you to share the challenges of your family life with him and how effective the Church's pastoral care has been for you. To meet this request, we have developed a Questionnaire for you, where your answers will be our parish’s feedback to the Synod on the Family which he has set up and which will meet in Rome this October. It is hoped that participating in this survey gets your viewpoint to the Synod, helping bishops better understand the beauty, the challenges, and the heartaches of contemporary family life. The results of our parish survey will be transmitted to Archbishop’s House for incorporation in the response from our diocese. The Questionnaire is confidential, voluntary and does not require any name and all views are welcome. Complete as many questions as you wish and return the completed form to the Sacristy, Howth Parish by 15th March 2015. We thank you most sincerely in anticipation of your views, comments and criticisms. Copies of the Questionnaire are available at the back of the church or from the Sacristy. It may also be downloaded from the Parish website www.howthparish.ie Celebrating those Baptised in 2014 On Sunday 15th March during the 10:30 am Family Mass, all of the children baptised in Howth in 2014 will be especially celebrated. They, their siblings, parents, godparents, wider family and friends are warmly invited to attend. ST. FINTAN'S PARISH HOLIDAY This year is the 1400th anniversary of the death of St. Columban. His tomb is in the crypt of the basilica dedicated to his name in the town of Bobbio situated in the foothills of the Apennines south of Milan. The proposal is to stay in the hilltop town of Bergamo, take an excursion to Sotto il Monte the birthplace Pope St. John XXIII, sightsee and shop in Milan taking in the magnificent Cathedral, La Scala Opera House, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper and then go for a relaxing day and night in Bobbio. If there is an expressed interest, a day-to-day programme will be prepared for September 2015. Please indicate your interest to St. Fintan’s Parish Office, Sutton as soon as possible.
