Sunday 1st February 2015

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time (05/15)

Monday (2nd February) is the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas).  Candles will be blessed at all the Masses on Monday.  Tuesday 3rd February is the feast of St. Blaise -  The Blessing of Throats will take place after the 8am and 10am Masses on Tuesday 3rd February.

SAINT PADRE PIO PRAYER GROUP Mass 7.30pm, preceded by Rosary 7.15pm, Monday 2nd February, Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Baldoyle.

Morning Masses at 8.00 and 10.00.  The Masses on the first Friday of the month are offered for those whose names are on the Parish Altar List of the Dead.

World Day of the Sick is celebrated on Wednesday 11th February, the feast day of Our Lady of Lourdes.  Archbishop Martin will celebrate Mass with Anointing of the Sick in St. Canice’s church in Finglas at 3pm on Sunday 8th February to mark this occasion.  The diocese has asked each parish to mark this special day in their own way.  Here in Howth, we have prepared a book into which we invite you to write the names of those who are sick and of those who care for the sick.  All these names will be remembered especially during Masses on the weekend of 7th/8th February and on Wednesday 11th February.  This book will be open in the church from 4th February and throughout the week leading up to World Day of the Sick.  Pope Francis has issued a special address for this occasion and copies will be available in the church.  The prayer of Pope Francis for the Sick will also be available on small cards to take home and to give to those who are sick or caring for the sick.

Howth Parishioner, Kelly Farrell has sent a note of ‘Thanks’ to the parishioners of Howth for their generosity at last week’s Church Gate Collection.  €1,000.41 was collected on behalf of Barnardos and Blossom Ireland.  Thank you so much for your kindness and support for these two very deserving charities.

Last year, you may remember, there was a parish consultation process inviting parishioners to submit their views on the Catholic Family and Marriage.  That factual information will be discussed at the 2nd Synod.  Pope Francis is anxious to have an updated and transparent pastoral response to the need to support marriage and family life and how it can be strengthened and renewed.  Anyone who wishes to forward further submissions on the various questions relating to Marriage and Family should do so before the end of March 2015.  The Parish Pastoral Council will facilitate your contributions by providing relevant questions.

Your response will be welcomed on the following topics

  1. The indissolubility of marriage

  2. The beauty of the family and mercy towards broken and fragile families

  3. Guiding engaged couples in marriage preparation

  4. Accompanying married couples in the initial years of marriage

  5. Pastoral care for couples civilly married or living together

  6. Caring for wounded families (separated, divorced and not remarried, divorced and remarried, single parent families)

  7. Pastoral attention towards persons with homosexual tendencies

  8. The transmission of life and the challenges of a declining birth rate

  9. Upbringing and the role of the family in Evangelisation

A Questionnaire will follow in the coming weeks.
