Sunday 18th May 2014 Fifth Sunday of Easter (20/14) MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP MARTIN The Report of the Audit of Child Safeguarding in the Archdiocese of Dublin carried out by the National Board for Safeguarding Children in the Catholic Church in Ireland was released during this week. The Report warmly commended the diocese and our parishes for the “rational, comprehensive and integrated child safeguarding system it has developed”. Special mention was made to the training programmes for parishes. I would like to take this occasion to express my sincere thanks to all those in our parishes and communities – priests and lay people alike - who have dedicated their time and energies over these years to making the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Dublin the safe place for children that it has become. I ask your prayers for victims and survivors and I ask God’s continued blessing on our work in the area of the protection of children. ANNUAL MASS AND ANOINTING OF THE SICK The Annual Mass and Anointing of the Sick will take place on Sunday, 15th June at 3.30pm in the Church HOWTH CHAMBER MUSIC The Howth Chamber Music Committee is proud to bring you the third instalment in a series of concerts. Thanks to the success of the inaugural festival and your ongoing support, the committee are delighted to welcome back to Howth, Mia Cooper, Amy Norrington, Philippe Graffin and Alasdair Beatson for a concert in our Church on Saturday 24th May at 8.30pm. The violin project continues in Howth Primary School, Scoil Mhuire, where more than 120 violins have been purchased which allows the whole school to learn violin on a weekly basis. WILLIAM STUART In response to the call by Pope Francis to the lay people of God to assert themselves and play their rightful role in the life of the Church, Fr. William will explore the theme of call in the Gospels and seek to give meaning to the call of the Christian in our world today and in our personal faith journey. He will seek to uncover how call is but one side of the gospel coin and how our response is the other. The local Conference of the SAINT VINCENT de PAUL Society will hold their monthly collection to-day – after all the Masses. Jn 14:15-21 HOWTH THEATRE EVENING After the huge success of “Tom Crean, Antarctic Explorer”, the next Howth Theatre Evening in Howth Golf Club will be the highly acclaimed production of “The Man in the Woman’s Shoes” with award winning actor Mikel Murfi on Wednesday next, 21st May at 8pm. This is a play which has wowed all the critics. This one-man show is funny and sad, tragic and hilarious, honest and full of intrigue.
