Second Sunday of Lent                                                                         (11/14)


There will be Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament this afternoon, (Sunday) from 4.00 to 5.00 p.m.   Sung Evening Prayer and Benediction will follow at 5 o’clock.  All welcome.



Tomorrow, Monday 17th March is Saint Patrick’s Day and a Holy Day of Obligation.  Mass Times will be : 8.30am, 10.30a.m. and 12 noon.  Please note that there is no evening Mass on St. Patrick’s Day.



The local Conference of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society will hold their monthly collection to-day – after all the Masses.



The Howth Parish Faith Development Group will host a Talk by Cathy Molloy STL, on Thursday 20th March at 8.00pm in St. Columbanus Hall.  The theme for the evening, ‘Leading from the Front: Pope Francis and the Road to a More Authentic Church’.  Cathy is a theologian who is active in Church affairs and has given talks nationally and internationally to religious and to lay groups.  All are welcome.



Once again we look forward to celebrating the Stations of the Cross in the Church on Good Friday in costume, mime and music.  Please consider taking part in this presentation, which is always a most rewarding experience.  If you are in any way interested in Drama or Mime or in giving a hand on the night, please come to the first rehearsal, which will take place on Wednesday 26th March at 7.30pm in the Church.

The parish website has been updated with resources related to the Family Mass for the second Sunday of Lent and a special section there also for St. Patrick’s Day.  The section for St. Patrick’s Day includes the story of the shamrock, an extract from St. Patrick’s Breastplate (prayer) and links to activity and colouring pages for younger parishioners.



Please remember in your prayers, RITA Ó FEARCHAIN, who died during the week.  We offer our sympathy to her family.  May she rest in peace.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation will not take place in St. Columbanus Hall tomorrow night.  Next session - Monday 24th March at 7.30 p.m. with Joe Clarke.  All are welcome.


Baldoyle Family Resource Centre are running an 8 week Ageing with Confidence Programme on Tuesday afternoons.  This programme is free of charge and offered to anyone over the age of 55. Contact Bernie  Tel. 848 4789


The Friends of Balscadden Bay (“fobb”) will hold their Annual General Meeting in St. Columbanus Hall, Main Street, Howth on Tuesday 18th March at 8.00pm.  There will be an update on what's been happening in relation to the proposed improved access to the beach and also swim events planned for the Summer.  All welcome.


Altar servers

We would like to re-establish a team of altar servers to work at our Family Masses.  Altar servers have a very special role in assisting the priest during Mass and especially preparing for the consecration.  If your son or daughter (aged 8 to 12 please) would be interested in joining this team, please leave your name with the parish secretary, Barbara on 839 7398.


Howth/Sutton Lions Club appreciate your support and generosity for last Sunday's Church Gate collection - receipts amounted to €1,096 for which they and L'Arche are very grateful.



‘From St. Francis to Pope Francis’

Following our two very successful talks, this week we will look at the challenges of St. Francis and Pope Francis and what our responses might be in this holy season of Lent. Thursday 20th March: Church of St. Laurence O’Toole. Time: 8.00pm Speaker: Alice Leahy, founder and director of Trust, who provide services to the homeless in Dublin.  Donations if desired.
