TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                                                  (40/12)

Next Sunday is World Mission Sunday.  October is the traditional month of universal mission since 1926.  World Mission Sunday provides us with the opportunity to unite with our missionary sisters and brothers, and to recommit ourselves to the Church's missionary activity, through prayer, sacrifice and financial contribution.  Funds raised are used to assist Young Churches and missionaries in helping communities in need, both spiritually and materially.  Contributions will be used to build simple mission churches, to educate seminarians and to assist in the formation of catechists and lay leaders.  The Mission Sunday gift will also be used for the building of health clinics for children, emergency aid in times of war or natural disaster and to assist missionaries in their efforts to care for refugees.

The theme for World Mission Sunday in Ireland this year is Growing in Communion.  On Mission Sunday (21st October 2012) in a special way, we celebrate the work our 1,700 missionaries and all missionaries throughout the world.  We thank God for them, for all who support them and for our growing in communion with them.  On Mission Sunday, please pray for the universal missions of the Church and give as generously as you can to the Mission Sunday Collection.

As a practical way of participating in the Year of Faith you are welcome to join our Bible Study Group which will meet on Friday morning October 19th at 10.45am in Sutton Parish Centre.  During the week we will be reading the Book of Jonah.  ALL ARE WELCOME.  For more information please contact James c/o Sutton Parish Office, Tel.839 2001 or Sr. Anne c/o Baldoyle Parish Office, Tel. 832 4313.

The Year of Faith began on October 11, 2012 and will end on November 24, 2013, the Solemnity of Christ the King.  The Pope chose October 11, 2012 as the opening date because on this day two important anniversaries occur: the 50th Anniversary of the opening of The Second Vatican Council and the 20th Anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Pope Benedict XVI has called for this special year as an invitation to “an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the one Saviour of the world”  (Apostolic Letter, Porta Fidei, 6).  The year is aimed at helping Catholics appreciate the gift of faith, deepen their relationship with God and strengthen their commitment to sharing faith with others.  For more information visit
