Twenty Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time                        (35/11)

Posted Monday 12th September by Dorothy Heydon

The Annual Collection for CROSSCARE—the Social Care Agency of the Dublin Diocese - will be made at all Masses NEXT weekend (17/18 September)

It will replace the normal SHARE Collection

CROSSCARE is involved in a wide variety of social projects in the Archdiocese of Dublin.

Since it was founded 70 years ago CROSSCARE has continued to seek to redress poverty and social exclusion.

It continues to develop new and innovative programmes and to sponsor new research to help inform policy on combating poverty and exclusion.

In reaching out to those most in need CROSSCARE operates 11 programmes throughout the Diocese.

Today the new translation in responses and prayers said by the congregation are included on the missalette.  But the order and structure of the Mass is not changed.  Nor are the readings changed.  Over time, we will become familiar with the prayers which have very slightly changed, for example, in the Holy, Holy, we say “Lord God of hosts” and in the response to “Pray, brothers and sisters,” the addition of one word, “holy,” before “Church.”  Other prayers have much more changes and where we said “And also with you” we now say “And with your spirit.”

Why is the Irish Church introducing this new Missal now?

The Irish Church is not alone in the task of introducing a new edition of the Roman Missal at this time. The new edition of the Roman Missal is the English translation of the Latin Missal that was issued by Pope John Paul II in 2002. Since 2002 the Church across the world in its many languages has engaged in the work of translating this Latin text through study, reflection and consultation. This work in English speaking countries is now complete. In Ireland, as in other English speaking countries, the new Missal will come into use during Autumn 2011.

The International Eucharistic Congress Bell to visit Howth on 25th September

The Eucharistic Congress Bell will be in the parishes of the Howth Deanery from Sunday 25th September to Monday 26th September.

The number of parishes requesting the Bell in Howth Deanery exceeded any other Deanery in the Dublin Diocese.  This is a tribute to the interest in preparing well for the Congress.  The downside is that it also restricts the time the Bell is going to be available to each parish.  Based on the interest shown at the Deanery meeting, we are looking at one hour per parish or thereabouts. Two representatives from each parish of the Deanery are invited to a meeting in Holy Trinity Church, Donaghmede, next Tuesday 13th September at 7.30 p.m.  This meeting is purely to put the itinerary of the Bell together and should not take too long.

Have you an hour a week to help the Howth Branch of the Ladybirds.  Leaders are required to
keep the branch going – after 22 years it would be a shame to see the branch disappear.
The Ladybirds provide a fun hour of crafts, songs, games and learning for 5 to 7 year olds every
Saturday morning (11.15 a.m. – 12.15 p.m.)  Potential leaders will be Garda vetted.
