You shall be my Witnesses…”  Parish Preparation for Confirmation programme
This week the young people of the parish have their fourth session in the parish based preparation for Confirmation programme on Monday 4th April in Scoil Mhuire at 7.30.p.m.  As the big day approaches they explore the question - How can I be a Witness? They discuss ways of displaying the Fruits of the Spirit- Love, Kindness, Joy, Goodness, Peace, Gentleness, Patience, Self-Control, and Faithfulness – in their own daily lives.  They talk about the campaign to carry out Acts of Random Kindness set up in Ireland a few years ago.  They promise to try to do something kind that would show they are followers of Jesus once a week, by themselves, with their family or as a group.  Maybe we could all think more about ARK (Acts of Random Kindness).  We are very grateful to Mr. John Chambers, Principal of Scoil Mhuire who has allowed us to use the school facilities for these sessions and to Ms Clarke the sixth class teacher who has supported the programme in every way possible.                                                          Valerie Darby and Kay Burke, Co-ordinators

The Peninsula Youth Walk   Saturday, 26 March, 2011
A great, fantastic, amazing, brilliant day, these are some of the words used to reflect the feeling by young people following this 5 mile Youth Fundraiser Walk.
Awesome and mind-blowing was the description to the sensitive spiritual and reflective closing session to the walk.
46 students took part and raised between them an amazing €1, 394.65 to date for the two needy causes- The Friends of the Orphans of Haiti and Barretstown Children’s Clinic. Sponsorship cards are still being returned and donations are still being received.
The Rev. Sonia Hicks, Methodist Church, Sutton and Father Liam Lacy, Sutton Parish Church put the walk in play with a prayer of commencement at the Methodist Church Hall, while the Rev. Kevin Brew, St. Mary’s Parish, Deerpark and Monsignor Brendan Houlihan, Church of the Assumption, Howth concluded proceedings with a prayer of thanksgiving at St. Mary’s Parish Hall.
The Synergy Group representing the four Christian Churches on the Peninsula were complimented for their organisation of the event which had a clear focus on the safety and security of our youth.  This priority was added to by the support given by the Gardai, in particular the approvals by Sergeant Paul Slattery at Howth Garda Station and the presence of Garda Dave Eagers and Garda Marie Geraghty on the day.
The intent of the initiative was to facilitate our youth in getting to know each other better, while at the same time exploring and expressing our Christian faith.
The response on the day points to success on both fronts not alone during the walk itself, but in the introduction and warm up session at the Methodist Church Hall and during the refreshments, entertainment and period of spiritual reflection in St. Mary’s.
A big thank you to all volunteers for your hard work and great contribution and a special thank you to Dr. Damien Jennings for being the ‘doctor on call’ on the day.                           HOWTH PARISH YOUTH GROUP
