Dr. John Bell of the Iona Community is coming to Ireland at the beginning of February for the Dublin and Glendalough Diocesan Clergy Conference.  John Bell, a member of the Wild Geese Resource Group, is a well known hymn writer and has spoken on a number of occasions in Ireland.  John Bell will be in Saint Mary’s Parish in Howth on Saturday morning, 5th February, from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.  He will be conducting a Workshop on MUSIC IN WORSHIP in Saint Mary’s Parish Centre.  The Workshop will be open to organists, choirs and those with an interest in singing hymns.  Tea and Coffee will be provided and an offering will be taken towards expenses.

The World Day of Prayer for the Sick takes place on Friday 11th February (the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes).  We will be celebrating this prayer for the Sick with special prayers at all the Masses on the weekend of 12th and 13th February.  From next Sunday (6th February) we will leave cards upon which you can write the name of a family member, friend or neighbour who is sick or who is a caregiver to the sick.  All these cards will be placed in a basket and brought to the altar for all the Masses on 12th /13th February.  The names on these cards will be especially remembered in the prayers of the parish community that weekend.  We have designed our own Howth prayer cards with the international prayer for the Sick and for Caregivers.  These cards may be taken and given to anyone who is sick or who is a caregiver.  The cards feature local sunrise and sunset scenes.  Celebrations of the World Day of Prayer for the Sick are also taking place in neighbouring parishes.
