FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2011   ENROLMENT CEREMONY 5th December  10.30 a.m.
For the past three years our parish here in Howth has been delighted to support a new programme for children preparing for First Holy Communion. This special programme includes a series of Masses which enables the children to become very familiar with all aspects of the Mass; the responses, prayers and liturgical activities. Their full participation in all these areas makes their experience of the Mass more enjoyable and fulfilling.  With the support of the parish community, the children’s schools and their families, the children fully participate in these Masses.  We shared many moments of vibrant liturgical celebration together over the past three years.
Once again we invite parents and parishioners to join together to support the children from our parish who are preparing to receive Jesus in First Holy Communion in 2011.  As parents we brought our children to the Church to be baptised and so initiated this special journey in our child’s religious education.
Our programme of preparation begins on Sunday 5th December– Enrolment Sunday.  On Enrolment Sunday, we invite the children’s parents and our parish community to promise to support our children on this special journey.  We look forward to seeing all of our children at this ceremony and support them as they grow in friendship with Jesus, which will continue long after the day of their First Holy Communion.

SOME MATTERS LINKED WITH THE BEGINNING OF THE NEW LITURGICAL YEAR
Pope Benedict XV1 has asked Catholic Communities around the world to celebrate a “Vigil for Nascent Life” which is to take place around the time when he will be celebrating First Vespers of the First Sunday of Advent.  The Pope has noted that the preparation for Christmas is an opportune time to invoke Divine Protection of every human person called into existence by God, especially from the moment of conception, as well as to thank God for the gift of life received from our parents.
The Diocesan Liturgy Resource Centre website: www.litmus.dublindiocese.ie has resources and prayers for Parishes who wish to celebrate the event in some way.
APOSTOLIC VISITATION
The Apostolic Visitation by Cardinal Sean O’Malley, Archbishop of Boston, has begun and the Visitator has had initial meetings with survivors and with a range of priests and lay people working in the area of child safeguarding, about 60 people in all.  Cardinal O’Malley has returned to Boston, but he will be back in Dublin early in the New Year.
Cardinal O’Malley is willing – in so far as possible to meet with priests working in the Diocese who wish to do so and also with parishioners.  Those wishing to meet the Cardinal should write to him at the address of the Apostolic Nunciature (183 Navan Road, Dublin 7) with the letter marked ‘confidential’.  He would also be pleased to receive written communications.
