Sunday 27th February 2011
Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time         (09/11)

This year’s Novena of Grace will commence on Friday 4th March at 8.00 p.m.  The Novena will be conducted by FATHER BERNARD McGUCKIAN, S.J.  The Novena Mass on Saturday 5th March will be at 7.00 p.m.  On Sunday 6th March, the Novena Mass will be at 12 noon.  From Monday 7th to Friday 11th March the Novena Mass will be at 8.00 p.m.  The Novena of Grace concludes on Saturday 12th March at the 7.00 p.m. Mass.
Envelopes for petitions are available in the Church.  You are invited to write out your petitions and place them in the sealed envelope.  These envelopes will be given to Fr. McGuckian and will be incorporated into the Prayer of the Faithful at each Novena Mass.  A special bookmark with the details of the Novena is also available in the Church.

The Diocesan Liturgy Resource Centre had a very positive reaction to their six session series at Clonliffe College for Ministers of the Word in October/November 2010.  Fr. Damian McNeice, Colette Furlong, Marie Kelly, Helen Norton and Fr. Kieran O’Mahony ensured that over 90 people had a rich and insightful Course.  By way of follow-up there will be a further Course during Lent – on four Mondays, 14th 21st and 28th March and 4th April at 8.00 p.m. in Clonliffe College.  Topics covered will include The Readings of the Easter Triduum and The Gospel of Saint Matthew.  If you would like to attend, please leave your name and contact telephone number into the Sacristy/Parish Office.  Enquiries Telephone 808 7554 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Morning Masses at 8.00 and 10.00.  Evening Mass at 8 o’clock.  All the Masses on the first Friday of the month are offered for those whose names are on the Parish Altar List of the Dead.

The Liturgy group of the Parish Pastoral Council have set up Baptism teams in the Parish of Howth.  A Baptism team consists of two people who meet new parents and help them to prepare a meaningful celebration of their child’s Baptism.  On the day of Baptism so many things are going on that sometimes the richness of the ceremony is lost.  The Baptism team meets with the parents before the Baptism to explore the rich symbols, readings and meaning of this Sacrament to ensure that the Ceremony is a wonderful experience for all.  The team is also present on the day to assist at the Ceremony.
We are calling for parishioners to become involved in this project.  The more participants we have the less the time commitment for each team.  Preparation and training will be provided locally.  If you have recently had a Baptism in your family or if you have a special interest in the Sacrament of Baptism we would love to hear from you.  Please contact Barbara in the Parish Office 839 7398.

Howth Parish Renewal and Reform Group meet with the Apostolic Visitor
The Howth Parish Renewal and Reform Group met with Cardinal Seán O'Malley, OFM, Cap, in All Hallows College on Tuesday the 22nd February. Approximately 18 members of the group, together with the Parish Priest, Mons. Brendan Houlihan, met with the Cardinal and his team for almost an hour and a half.  A wide range of issues were covered including the recent abuse scandals, the current governance structures, spiritual development and the future of our Church, either by way of oral presentations or through spontaneous contributions from those present.  The Cardinal listened intently to the views expressed and responded to the group in a very frank and honest manner. The meeting was an historic and most positive experience for the members of the group.           Suzanne McCann
