TWENTY FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME                                                      (37/12)

CROSSCARE ANNUAL COLLECTION

The Annual Collection for CROSSCARE—the Social Care Agency of the Dublin Diocese - will be made at all Masses THIS weekend

It will replace the normal SHARE Collection

CROSSCARE is involved in a wide variety of social projects in the Archdiocese of Dublin.

Since it was founded 70 years ago CROSSCARE has continued to seek to redress poverty and social exclusion.   It continues to develop new and innovative programmes and to sponsor new research to help inform policies on combating poverty and exclusion.  In reaching out to those most in need CROSSCARE operates 11 programmes throughout the Diocese.

“You Shall be my Witnesses…”   Post-Confirmation Programme

A follow-up programme to “You Shall be my Witnesses…” the parish based Preparation for Confirmation Programme will commence on Monday 24th September from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. in Scoil Mhuire, Howth.  There will be a meeting each month during the school year.  This is open to all those who have been Confirmed in the past three years.  This will be an opportunity for the young people to meet up again with their friends from primary school and to discuss the changes they are going through and the issues that concern them now.  While engaging in fun activities, music, art, games and community projects we hope to help them to develop their faith within the parish community.  Each session will end with a prayer and small snack.  We hope that you will encourage any young person now in first, second or third year to attend.  For further information contact the Parish Office 839 7398

Emmaus Vocation Journey: Who?  It is for any young man, (18-35 or so) who wants to reflect on the calling to priesthood.  What? You are invited to set aside four mornings, (beginning at 11.00am and ending around 2.30pm), and one weekend, between October 2012 and March 2013 to take part in a journey of discernment (decision making which is rooted in faith).  In a city centre venue each of the mornings will include: some quiet prayer using the Scriptures, a short presentation on a theme related to vocation, followed by discussion, the Mass, a light meal.  Topics for discussion include: What is a vocation? Prayer and Vocation, Priest Vocation Stories, Maynooth Seminary Weekend, and a final discussion on the way forward.  The Emmaus Vocation Journey is designed to allow the participants to form a kind of faith-community, in which each person will be supported by the others in the process of discernment.  For that reason, participants are invited to make a commitment to the whole programme.  How to apply?  If you would like to take part in this course please contact: Fr John Gilligan: vocations@dublindiocese.ie or check out our website: www.priest.ie/news

BIBLE STUDY GROUP

Following on from the International Eucharistic Congress and the great interest shown in adult faith development as well as the imminent Year of Faith (beginning October 11th), the parish in Sutton are exploring the possibility of starting up a Bible Study Group. The aim of the Group is to give people an opportunity to learn about Scripture and in so doing deepen their understanding of how the Word of God is alive and active in their lives.  The sessions will also give people an opportunity to meet in a relaxed friendly environment and support each other as they grow in faith together.  For further information, please contact James in Sutton Parish Office – Tel. 839 2001.
