A new Radio Station – Spirit Radio – was launched in Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork and Waterford on 27th January 2011.  Presenters will highlight reports that show the relevance of Christian faith in to-day’s world. The staff, volunteers and directors of this new Radio station represent the diverse Christian Community in Ireland and will work alongside Churches and Christian organisations to bring Good News to the Nation. It is a ‘not for profit’ organisation with Charitable status and is an ecumenical initiative.  Tune in on FM Dublin 89.9

We normally don’t publicise films but we make an exception for “Of Gods and Men” which is attracting immense reaction from those interested in an insight into the religious life. The film follows the daily chores of a group of French Trappist monks whose monastery is in a remote area of Algeria in the 1990’s as they intertwine prayer, divine chant and tending to the needs of the local peasant population. Tensions rise as Islamic militancy targets all westerners and the monks are faced with the choice of abandoning their mission or staying put and risking almost certain death. The story is deeply moving, the acting brilliant and the music wonderful. It can only be seen in The Lighthouse Cinema on Smithfield Square. Take a DART to Connolly and the LUAS to Smithfield. The film runs daily 3.00 p.m. except Sunday 4.30 p.m. Additional showings Thurs & Sat 5.40 p.m. Tickets can be booked in advance Tel. 879.7601 or check your newspaper before travelling.
